Abstract

The review is focused on genes involved in bacterial degraders of PCBs . According to the published results, they belong to three different groups. The genes could be located on chromosome or plasmid. Microorganisms which carry all genes necessary for the complete degradation of PCBs have not been yet described. This could be achieved using either co-culture of individual strains or a strain carrying all responsible genes. The possibility of constructing such a strain by means of genetic engineering methods is discussed.
