Abstract

The review deals with the voltammetric application of interdigitated array (IDA) microelectrodes. They can be used as powerful HPLC detectors for analysis of biological samples. In this case a high selectivity is needed because of significant interference of metabolites. The current of the collector segment of IDA array does not include the undesirable background current because interfering metabolites are irreversibly oxidized in the generator segment and are not transported to the collector. High sensitivity is attained with current amplified by redox cycling which can also be realized in a double cell arrangement. This phenomenon enables stripping analysis applications to species which cannot be stripped from the electrode in a classic voltammetric experiments.
