Abstract

This review summarizes basic information on triacetone triperoxide (3,3,6,6,9,9-hexamethyl-1,2,4,5,7,8-hexaoxacyclononane, TATP), which is considered to be one of the most frequently synthesized explosive on the amateur level. The article is mainly aimed at the history of the compound, its basic physical, chemical and explosive properties, including its synthesis and misuse. The purpose of the article is to clarify some misinformation on TATP and to warn against the serious hazard associated with this highly sensitive explosive.
