Abstract

Use of two mass analyzers in tandem creates a powerful new tool with a wide range of use and applications. Principles of tandem mass spectrometry in space and in time are presented. Main ion activation methods that lead to dissociation are discussed: collision induced dissociation, surface induced dissociation, electron transfer dissociation and dissociation using light. Examples of applications in fundamental and applied research are briefly described.
