Abstract

This review describes new procedures of preparation of nanoparticles into liquid media, possible ways of their action on cellular level and testing of antimicrobial activity of metal nanoparticle-glycerol system. Basic requirements on liquid media and conditions affecting parameters of colloidal solutions are specified. Advantages of glycerol based nanoparticle solutions from the point of view of their biological effects are discussed. In particular the silver, gold, palladium, and platinum nanoparticles are considered with emphasis on their antimicrobial activity. The paper presents original experimental data and summarizes mechanisms of antimicrobial action of these nanoparticles towards grampositive and gramnegative bacteria strains together with supposed passage of nanoparticles to intracellular space and processes triggered within this milieu.
