Abstract

This article explains the principles of the singlet fission phenomenon, describes the current state of research in this area, and points out the potential practical importance for improving the efficiency of solar cells. In the article the basic physical concepts about the process are recapitulated, as well as about the required characteristic of chromophores, the elementary building blocks for materials for singlet fission. The theoretical description of the process follows, in simplified version, which allows to predict optimal structure of dimers for which there is chance to observe Singlet Fission with high efficiency. At the end of the article, some practical designs of solar cells for Singlet Fission technology are mentioned.
