Abstract

A survey is given of heavy metals most frequently occurring in the environment, which are the main cause of its pollution. Attention is especially paid to potential penetration of heavy metals into the organism, their toxicity and affecting specific target organs. The sources of the environment contamination with particular heavy metals and their toxic effect on biotics are discussed.
