Abstract

The development and origins of the Slovak chemical nomenclature based on the Czech model is outlined. The specificity of this nomenclature in the light of the controlled language phenomenon is discussed and, within this framework, the re-evaluation of linguistic means in the field of inorganic chemistry as well as the symbiosis of the international and Slovak nomenclature items is analyzed. The paper is focused also on the efforts to achieve unambiguity and on the remnants of polysemy of the natural language in this field. A part of the contribution is devoted also to the syntactic structure of inorganic names.
